It’s with great sadness and sorrow to share that our Mum, Kate Hammerton, passed away on 4 April 2022, age 57.
Kate was a much loved Mum, Sister, Aunty, Soulmate, Friend, and in her proudest moments, a Nanna.
Those of you who knew her well will know that she fought a hard battle with cancer in 2020. Diagnosed during the pandemic, Mum bravely underwent aggressive treatment in hospital mostly alone, with the support of her long term partner Steve and her family. It wasn’t an easy journey for Mum but she was given the all clear in January 2021, and we all spent last year supporting her road to recovery, catching up on lost time and making plans for the future.
Tragically, Mum started to experience new and different symptoms in March 2022, and lost a very short battle with Ovarian cancer after only 5 weeks.
Kate was lovingly surrounded by her closest family members during her final moments and is now reunited with her beloved Mum and Dad, and other much loved and sorely missed family members and friends.
Mum loved nothing more than spending time with her Grandchildren and her family. She loved reading, watching her favourite TV shows, and pottering in her garden in Walton on the Naze, where in the last 5 years, she has been the happiest she has ever been.
It was Mums wishes to have a direct, unattended, cremation. This will take place on 4 May. We have created this tribute page should you wish to share your condolences with the family during this difficult time in place of your attendance.
Should you also wish to donate to charity in place of sending flowers, it is the wishes of the family to raise funds for research and action to be taken to change the way that ovarian cancer is diagnosed and treated. You can do that here too, and we thank you in advance for any messages or donations received.
The family will mark the occasion privately and thank you for your support during this difficult time.
Dear Kate, you have left a giant hole in the lives of your family & friends. I have some fabulous memories of you and will always remember you with much love Anne & Dylan (sorry I didn’t name him Dougal) xxx
Sincere condolences to Hollie, Ethan and all the family. I have fond memories of your Mum lots of laughs, music and sleep overs as kids. Thinking of you all at this difficult time
